PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY SERVICE
Seeff Properties Zimbabwe, formally Gainsborough, has been at the forefront of the estate agency business for over 40 years. With a team of trained and professional negotiators, it is proud of its record of being able to make money from property for sellers and landlords, while taking care of buyers and tenants so well that they provide personal testimonies about the company.
“This has not been an easy market in which to operate,” said John Spicer, chairman. “During the days of hyperinflation the value of a house could go from millions of Rand to not enough to buy a pound of butter in a week and we had to manage sales so that our clients did not lose out.
“Next came dollarisation and, because scarcity had driven the exchange rate when it was illegal to deal in foreign currency, initially many people expected to make a fortune from their sales and we had to manage those expectations as well.
“Now that the economy is settling down, we are faced with some of the highest wages in the region so repairs and maintenance are expensive. Moreover, most of our building material comes from South Africa and the strong Rand, compared with the US dollar, which most of this country uses, makes them costly.”
These problems are common to all estate agents and Seeff believes that its key selling point is that it builds good relationships with clients, looks after their interests for the long term and provides advice that stands the test of time.
“We don’t get it right all the time but we do often enough to be pleased by our market share. We know that we are often the first port of call for people who want to sell upmarket homes or commercial properties and we are proud of what we achieve for them.”
Seeff Zimbabwe keeps its clients up to date regularly with what is happening to their properties as well as what is going on in the estate agents’ marketplace. “Things change suddenly in this part of the world and we don’t want new developments to take our clients by surprise,” Spicer said.
